What is a Certified Music Therapist and Counselling Therapist?
As a Certified Music Therapists in Canada and Counselling Therapists in Alberta, we follow Standards of Practice and are bound by a Code of Ethics. We use music within a therapeutic relationship to help people change and grow. To be certified, we have completed a degree in Music Therapy, a 1000-hr internship and a certifying exam. We also engage in continuing education and supervision to stay updated with current research and practices.

In Alberta, the profession of Counselling Therapy is in the process of being regulated. Our therapists have completed additional training in counselling and are members of the Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta.
What can I expect in a music therapy & counselling session?
In our first session, we will talk about your strengths and needs to see how we might proceed together. In following sessions, we may talk, sing, create, write and listen to music.​ We will support you in order to make your experience a fulfilling one. No previous musical training or experience necessary, just openness and willingness to try something different.
What can I expect in a free 15-minute consultation?
This will be a phone or video call for your therapist to get to know your reasons for seeking therapy at this time. We might go over:

Setting up our first session or a referral to another healthcare professional
How long is a session?
Sessions are usually 50 minutes. This allows time within the hour to complete other counselling-related tasks such as documentation and billing.
Do you take insurance or do direct billing?
We can direct bill with certain insurance providers. We can also provide you with a receipt for reimbursement.

​Canadian Certified Counsellors and Counselling Therapists are now covered under select extended health benefits under 'Clinical Counsellor'. Please inquire with your insurance provider.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require at least 24-hour notice for all cancellations. Cancellations within 24-hours and no-shows are subject to your full session fee. We also understanding of circumstances beyond your control.
Do you offer sliding scale?
We believe that therapy should be affordable and accessible for the necessity of caring for our mental health needs. If the session fee is a barrier, please do not hesitate to ask about our sliding scale options. (As of Aug 2025, sliding scale spots are on waitlist).
