About 1:1 Counselling

"Sometimes the bravest and most important thing you can do is just show up and let someone help you through."

Who?

Areas I am passionate about:

  • Mental health and overall wellness

  • Inner conflict and self-concept (intrapersonal and cognitive dissonance)

  • Being your authentic self and living a meaningful life

  • Compassion fatigue and burnout

  • Intersectionality and identity

  • Being anti-oppressive and anti-racist

How?

My approach

  • Humanistic

  • Strengths-based

  • Music-centred

  • Feedback-informed

  • Feminist

  1. The first few sessions will allow us to get to know each other and set goals for our time together.

  2. We will explore your experience with music in your life and how music has helped you thus far. I try my best to highlight your strengths and provide resources to help you manage and cope.

  3. We will engage in a variety of music and talk therapy experiences to explore and work toward your goals. Difficult emotions may arise and it is important to let me know so that we can work through them in a safe way.

  4. We will work together to assess your needs as we go along the therapeutic process and make adjustments as necessary.

What?

Experiences

  • Talk - I draw from various therapeutic approaches that might best fit your needs in the moment. This includes, Humanistic and Strengths-Based approaches, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy.

  • Music Listening - Listening to music that is meaningful to you can quickly bring up thoughts, feelings, and emotions.

  • Music Making -  Whether it'd be playing instruments, re-creating a song, improvising, or singing, the act of music making itself can improve self esteem and self concept. Playing with another person in this therapeutic context can also increase connection, safety, and trust. It is also another way of self-expression.

  • Song writing - This can help with expressing your thoughts in a structured way.
